| At least, that is my conclusion after doing a bit of research. I used to run M1 15w50 because it has a lot of ZDDP at 1200ppm and I liked the heavier weight for my high milage engine. Since changing climates slightly, I was getting a bit of lifter noise on cold starts that I didn't like. The 5w50 formula has 1100ppm of ZDDP, and the lighter cold weight helped with the cold start noise. I believe the most wear on an engine happens during cold start conditions, and so it also lets me sleep easier. :) Besides the above, the 5w50 formula is popular among the TT porsche guys because it has the Porsche A40 certification. In fact, I found a local distributor of it from a tip off of a Porsche Forum. It is also the factory fill of the Lexus LFA, which is just an additional cool point. You can read the entire M1 5w50 wrap sheet here: La-Z-Link You can also see the Mobil 1 product guide here, which compares everything: La-Z-Link The 0w40 oil also has the A40 certification. I think I would run this or the Rotella T6 on a newer engine. I currently have 176k on my engine and get an oil analysis every 10k miles or so. Looking great so far so I am very satisfied, we'll see how much longer it lasts. Finding it in the states can be difficult. You can either order it online (I think Amazon does carry it) or call around to local mom and pop shops. I've also heard rumors of Napa now carrying it, so that might be a place to check.
